Though we take it for granted, the miracle of vision is one of the greatest gifts we have just by virtue of being members of the human race. Just simple things like seeing a deer in the wilderness, watching our favorite sports teams and viewing great works of art enrich our lives in absolutely immeasurable quantities.
Nevertheless, how much do we really know about these mysterious organs, the eyes that make all of these magical experiences possible?


1. The average blink lasts for about 1/10th of a second. 




2. While
 it takes some time for most parts of your body to warm up to their full potential, your eyes are on their “A game” 24/7. 




3. Seeing is such a big part of everyday life that it requires about half of the brain to get involved.

 


4. Newborns don’t produce tears. They make crying sounds, but the tears don’t start flowing until they are about 4-13 weeks old.
